RNSG 1160 (NT) - Clinical for Mental Health

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. The student will gain experience in care for psychiatric clients in inpatient and outpatient settings with emphasis on the application of a systematic problem-solving process to provide care to diverse clients across the life-span, including applicable competencies in patient education, judgment, skills, safety, therapeutic communication, assessments and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Application of principles to provide total patient care involving nursing theory, concepts and skills at an advanced level. Helps students synthesize new knowledge, apply previous knowledge, and gain experience managing workflow. Practical experience is simultaneously related to theory. Close and/or direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional (faculty or preceptor), generally in a clinical setting. Clinical education is an unpaid learning experience. Content includes applicable DEC competencies.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program and Prerequisites: RNSG 1413, RNSG 1360, RNSG 1300, RNSG 1301. Concurrent enrollment in RNSG 2213 (Mental Health Nursing) is required. Successful completion of both theory and clinical courses is required for progression.
