The TEAS entrance test is scheduled through the Kilgore College Testing Center. Students can take the exam at any testing center that the TEAS is given. Also, via ATI: https://atitesting.com. The entrance test may be taken only twice during a calendar year. The TEAS may not be older than 1 year. Applicants must take the Reading, Math, Science, English & Language. A minimum Total Score of Proficient or higher must be achieved. Please go to the nursing page to find the Transition Checklist and Application packet for further information.
Accepted applicants will have a minimum 2.50 Science GPA. All science attempts and grades for the past 5 years will be used to calculate the science GPA. Points will be deducted for withdrawal for pre-requisite courses after the first withdrawal. Science courses are good for five years. If your BIOL 2401 or 2402 is older than 5 years, you can take BIOL 2404 as a refresher course for both of these sciences. This does not apply to BIOL 2420. The transition program needs to be completed within four years after the initial admission to nursing classes. If the student does not receive a C or higher in any course, the students may not progress until the deficiency has been removed.
In addition to regular college admission requirements, prospective students must submit the transition nursing application and be accepted to this program by the Admission/Progression Committee. Students should contact the Nursing Department or the Health Science Academic Counselor for additional information. The student must take the clinical courses concurrently with the applicable theory course, must be successful in BOTH to progress, and must repeat both to correct the deficiency. The student must complete all required courses of the program with a C or higher. ADN Grade Requirement for successful completion are: “A” 90-100, “B” 80-89, “C” 75-79, “F” 74 and below. The students must complete nursing courses for each semester before progressing to the next semester. Admission and re-admission students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA or better, and be selected by the Admission/Progression Committee on a space-available and priority basis.
A student who completes the required courses may receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. The graduate is then eligible to take the licensing examination for Registered Nurses given by the National Council of States Boards of Nursing.
